Out of all three different anime incarnations, DRAGON BALL Z has produced the most music. The music in DRAGON BALL Z ranges the gamut to heavy rock tunes to bouncy-cutesy themes; from country renditions to slow, moving ballads; from techno dance music to full-blown orchestrated suites. Overall, it is the most moving anime music I myself have ever heard. The list above contains a very small sampling of the great DRAGON BALL Z vocals available on CD. The most easily attainable DRAGON BALL Z CDs are the HIT Kyokushuu, or "Hit Song Collections". A total of 21 CDs comprise the Hit Song Collection set, and each one of them is equally great. The first 15 Hit Song Collections contain the first opening theme Cha-La Head-Cha-La, as well as the first closing theme, Detekoi Tobikiri Zenkai Power! ("Come Out Extraordinary, Extreme Power!"). The last 6 contain the second opening theme, We Gotta Power, along with the second closing theme Bokutachi Wa Tenshi Datta ("We Used To Be Angels"). The remainder of the songs above are ending themes to or songs that premiered in theatrical releases (songs 6-7, 9-16), oddities (the English versions), songs that appeared in the anime (8), or songs that I just found too good to not post here (5). Song 18, Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii Tai Tamashii~ ("The Day Of Fate ~Spirit Vs. Spirit~"), is Son Gohan's power-up theme during the climax of the Cell Game, when he finally loses it and literally goes "over the edge". Songs 21 and 22 are ending themes/special vocal versions of songs from the popular DRAGON BALL Z video games; songs 23 and 24 are special synthesized versions of famous Dragon Ball Z vocal tracks. Song 25, Eien no Yakusoku ("Everlasting Promise") is my favorite ballad in the entire series, a smooth duet between Hironobu Kageyama and Kuko. If you would like to know which song can be found on which CD, or which ending theme goes with which movie, drop me a line, and I'll help you out.
By the way, for those of you asking, lyrics to the English versions of the DRAGON BALL Z songs can now be downloaded here.
