Suushinchuu: Listening Booth

The DRAGON BALL anime series and its sequels have spawned an incredible amount of music. Over the past 10 years, close to 60 DRAGON BALL-related CDs have been produced by the companies Nippon Columbia Ltd. and Forte Music Entertainment. The majority of the CDs are image albums and game music soundtracks, although a couple drama albums and other miscellaneous soundtracks have been produced. I believe that DRAGON BALL music is highly underrated, and that the music from this series deserves a closer look. This section is intended as an introduction to DRAGON BALL music, as well as a trip down memory lane for those of us already accustomed to its wonderful tunes.

Please note that this section will only contain clips from the Japanese version of DRAGON BALL, DRAGON BALL Z, and DRAGON BALL GT. I will not include any sort of music from any of its translated counterparts, including the North American English version (the opening song of which a great number of you have been asking for). If you would like to hear this song, please check out my FAQ page for more details.

Before continuing, please make sure that you have an MPEG Audio player. If you don't have one, you can get one from these two sites:

  • Winamp (Windows 95) (version 1.8)
  • Macamp (PowerMac) (version 1.0a9)

These are the best MPEG Audio players on the planet, and yes, they are free (nag-free shareware, actually). If you need a less CPU-consuming player, let me know.

The files contained within these pages are an assortment of clips and full-length samples. They are not CD-audio quality files, due to space, bandwidth, ethical, and legal reasons. Please do not ask for a higher quality version of these files. Remember, the Listening Booth was created to persuade visitors to buy the CDs; it is not a replacement for the CDs. All of the files found here are encoded in the MPEG Layer II Audio format at the lowest bitrate possible (still sounds pretty darn good though). The MPEG Layer II Audio format was chosen over the Layer 3 format because it prevents users from streaming the audio (which eat up a gross amount of bandwidth). If you want to listen to the songs, please just download them.

Finally, please do not directly link to the files on this server. The more bandwidth I generate, the worse it is for this page. So please be prudent with your downloading and do not link to the files on this server.

Thanks to Steph Graves for the Dragon Ball Z CD list, which was used to compile the names of many of the songs found here, Vejitasama for telling me about Hironobu Kageyama's English versions of the popular opening and ending themes, MiraiBulma for saving me the trouble of encoding Unmei no Hi ~Tamashii Tai Tamashii~, and Project DBZ, for making such fantastic music!

At last, the music (click on a CD):
