Suushinchuu: What's New?

Welcome back to Suushinchuu: an unofficial DRAGON BALL website. Thanks for returning, and I hope you find your visit here this time as enjoyable as the last. Here are the recent changes to the website, assorted by date.

Valentine's Day Update | 2/14/98

  • Outfitted the entire site with a very short cascading style sheet in the head tag that automatically turns off the underlining of hyperlinks (Internet Explorer 4.0+ and Netscape Navigator 4.0+ are the only two major browsers that this CSS will affect; Internet Explorer 3.0 might also be subject to this style sheet's effects as well). Let me know if this becomes a problem for you.

  • Updated the Latest News release schedule to add the new DRAGON BALL Z episodes that were broadcasted this weekend.

  • More links added to the Links section.

  • In honor of Valentine's Day, added to the Listening Booth Eien no Yakusoku ("Everlasting Promise"), the ending theme to Ultimate Battle 22. This is a love ballad sung by Hironobu Kageyama and Kuko.

  • I'm going home this weekend; I will get around to replying to all unanswered e-mail as soon as I get back on Sunday night. Have a safe Valentine's Day/Presidents' Day weekend everyone, and don't forget to watch the Ginyuu Tokusentai (Ginyu Force) swing into action this week on DRAGON BALL Z.

Streamlining | 2/12/98

  • Added a sixth page to the Image Album, which currently includes one image of the Ginyuu Tokusentai. Those of you who watched last week's episode of DRAGON BALL Z will surely recognize this pose. You gotta love these guys.

  • Updated the Site Map to reflect the change in the Image Album.

  • Streamlined the HTML code in the Listening Booth and Latest News pages. You should now experience faster downloads due to the decreased file size of a couple of these pages, especially those in the Listening Booth section. I will continue to tweak the site as time goes on.

  • Added more questions and my answers to them to the FAQ page. Please refer to this before e-mailing me.

  • Added more links to the Links page.

  • Updated Latest News once again, adding three news briefs and a small editorial.

General Maintenance | 2/7/98

  • Deletion of a meta tag in the head tag that prevented browsers from switching encodings. You should now be able to view my pages with S-JIS Japanese encoding, for those of you that have that feature enabled.

  • Added a couple of new hyperlinks to the Links section, and updated an old hyperlink on the same page.

  • I forgot to add hyperlinks to a couple of MPEG Layer II Audio files in the Dragon Ball Z section of the Listening Booth; hyperlinks to those songs are now active (songs 23 and 24).

  • Updated the news page with three new topics. Added the "archive" subheader, which will allow one to peruse past news topics.

  • Lastly, thanks so much for the compliments and criticisms of my site. I appreciate any feedback that you have for me; it helps me to keep the page going. See you next time.

Most Recent Changes | 2/5/98

An awful lot. Let's go down the list.
  • Complete renovation/makeover of the site, including a renaming of the site from Wuken's Homepage to Suushinchuu and the placement of a metaphor to fit with the Suushinchuu name (Suushinchuu is Japanese for "Four-Star Ball", and if you haven't noticed already, all of the header images have the Four-Star Dragon Ball in the background).

  • The decision to abandon the free-flowing nature of my old site and embrace tight, constraining design that focuses on creative use of white space. Every page in this site uses at least one table -- some pages use nested tables -- so please use Netscape 3.0+ and Internet Explorer 3.0+ when viewing this site (AOL users, do use the IE 3.0 bundled with your Internet package). This site looks its best when viewed in Navigator 4.0 and Internet Explorer 4.0+, but it still looks great when viewed in most other browsers supporting the HTML 3.2 standard. I'm asking you to use Netscape 3.0+ because Netscape 2.0 and earlier versions do not support background colors in tables, and I use those somewhat extensively in this site. This site looks great at any resolution at or higher than 640x480 (sorry, WebTV users).

  • While I'm at it, please disable the feature that underlines hyperlinks and use an appropriate web-browsing font. Windows 95 users, I highly recommend Verdana. It's a bit larger than most fonts, so set it to 10 pt. You can get this font from Microsoft.com (it's free, by the way). Another great web-browsing font to use with Windows 95 is Georgia (also at Microsoft.com). Macintosh users, please use Arial or a similar font. While the usage of these fonts is not required to fully enjoy the site, I believe that they make my site (and every other site that you visit) a whole lot better.

  • Addition of an client-side imagemap to help guide the visitor through the site. Let me know if this becomes a problem, and I'll work around it (I will probably provide a text-only version if need be).

  • Addition of a small amount of Javascript to the site (mouseovers on the image map only). Let me know if this causes problems for you. There is no Java on this site, so Netscape 4.0 users, rest easy.

  • Addition of a small, almost unnoticable counter script to the main page. Even though I don't really see the point of a counter at all (which is why my old site didn't have one for the longest time), I like having an easy way to check just how many people have visited in a day. Before implementing it, I had to load an unwieldly statistics program that grew harder and harder to use with each passing day. The counter itself is very accurate in keeping track of visitors, and doesn't fall prey easily to "counter-terrorism" (in other words, reloading the page won't increase the number at all).

  • Addition of a brief, historical look at DRAGON BALL, called "The Story of Dragon Ball".

  • Addition of a site map to help my visitors find what they want quickly.

  • Addition of a frequently asked questions page that will hopefully facilitate quicker responses.

  • A complete rewrite and redesign of my most popular sections, the Listening Booth, the Image Gallery (now known as Image Album), and Dragon Ball News (now known as Latest News, since I focus also on Toriyama-related material).

  • Within the links page, deletion of many dead links and all reviews. Why are there no longer any reviews? Because I want you to decide what makes a site good or not, and to not take my word for it. If you want reviews of DRAGON BALL sites, try other pages that specialize in them.

  • Deletion of many card images in the gallery; deleted images have been replaced with better group images. More will be added as time goes on, hopefully one every two weeks?

  • Addition of more songs in the Listening Booth. Still doesn't include "Rock the Dragon", so please stop asking. :)

  • Added some files here and there, namely lyrics to the English versions of the popular Dragon Ball opening and ending themes that many of you have been asking about.

  • Completion of a site that I am 100% happy with. :) I wasn't all too thrilled with the old bluish look of my old site, and while it did load faster, it just didn't make me want to get up and update. I'm a designer/artist at heart, and my old site was just plain, plain, plain. I love updating this new site and adding on to it. I hope you get as much satisfaction browsing and/or contributing to this site as much as I do maintaining it.

  • I'd like to thank the following people who have helped make my site what it is today. Ardith Santiago, for scanning many of my Dragon Ball images for the image album, as well as for being a good friend; Curtis Hoffmann, for all sorts of good information and merchandise; Allan Tabilas (Son Gohan/Saiyaman on #db) for all the multimedia help and talks; cMann (Steven Cheung), for also being a great friend (congratulations on the baby boy and marriage!); Gokou3 (Robert D'Antoni) for help with information and merchandise; the IRC channel #db, for being who they are; High Five, for "killer" inspiration; everyone who has contributed news to my Dragon Ball news page, gave me comments about my pages, and/or linked to my site; Akira Toriyama, for creating one of the best stories and one of the funniest characters I've ever been introduced to (that being Son Gokuh); and finally, the Lord, through whom I can do anything. This site is dedicated to the work of Akira Toriyama.

If I happened to have forgotten to mention your name in the credits above, then please consider it an error of the mind, and not of the heart. All "thank-you's" will be moved into an appropriate section shortly.
